3in1 Counselling

 3 in 1 Counselling

Keeping you safe,
walking alongside you with empathy,
and helping you explore your life in a spirit of gentle curiosity....

Keeping you safe

I offer a safe place, with a high degree of confidentiality, where you can bring your whole self.  I will be genuinely warm and will accept you, without judgement, just as you are.

 Walking alongside you with empathy

I offer to walk alongside you with empathy, which means that I will listen attentively to you and try to see things from your point of view.

Helping you explore your life

I offer to help you explore your life in a spirit of gentle curiosity, looking with you into your experiences, past and present, and helping you make choices for the future.

Therapeutic Approaches

Beliefs

I engage with you to help you understand the relationship between your beliefs about yourself and the world, and your physical and emotional well-being.  Sometimes, this might include experimenting with different ways of thinking and behaving, in accordance with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Metaphors

I help you explore emotional and relational patterns in your life, in accordance with psychodynamic therapy.  This may involve looking at childhood experiences.

Stories

I encourage you to work together with people who know you, and with the natural environment, to find different perspectives on your life story, as proposed in Narrative Therapy.

Symbols

I regard symbols as the language of the spiritual part of each of us and encourage self-discovery through creative expression in a variety of media.  I also engage in dream work.

How does it work?
6 Frequently Asked Questions about 3in1 Counselling

Question 1: How can counselling help me?

Research shows that the therapeutic relationship we build up together is key to helping you.  I offer regular fifty minute sessions, during which I will treasure you as the unique and precious person you are.  Because I offer a high degree of confidentiality and promise not to be judgemental, you may share about yourself in a way that you might not do under normal circumstances.  This opening up will enable us to work together to help you reach a better understanding of your situation and to become better able to extend your choices and/or make changes in your life.

Question 2:  What are your counselling sessions like?

I tend to start each session by asking how you are and how you would like to use our time together.  It may be that you wish us to sit together without speaking much, possibly engaging in meditation.  Alternatively, you may be brimming over with things you want to discuss.  As we get to know each other, we might collaborate together to set gentle challenges, perhaps things for you to think about or do between sessions, to help you explore your life.

Question 3:  What sort of things can I talk about in counselling sessions?

There may be a very down-to-earth issue you want to explore.  Alternatively, your concern may be of a more spiritual nature, perhaps relating to a dream or vision.  Sometimes people don't quite know what brings them to counselling.  Whatever thoughts and feelings you bring with you, I will be there for you.

Question 4:  I don't know how I would even start talking about the things that concern me....

You don't have to bring anything but yourself, but on the other hand, you may want to bring some pictures or artefacts, or some words or music which are important to you.  If you want to create something of your own during or between sessions, which helps you express what it feels like to be you, that's fine too.  Another option is to engage in Walk and Talk therapy, where the natural environment may provide a focus for your thoughts and feelings.

Question 5:  When should I start to think about getting counselling?

It's never too soon to invest in your mental health.  I offer counselling which draws on different approaches, including person-centred, psychodynamic, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and creative and narrative therapies.  Contact me today to book a free initial consultation, where we can get to know each other a little and decide how I can best meet your needs.

Question 6:  So how much does counselling cost?

I aim to help you get the most out of your regular 50-minute counselling sessions by finding out a bit about you and your concerns in a free initial telephone consultation.  After that, sessions generally cost £50.  Home visits (available for people within a five-mile radius of Lichfield, who are registered as disabled) cost £60.  Concessionary rates, on request, if you are struggling financially.
